چکیده
We reviewed literature on the diet of Galeus melastomus Rafinesque, 1810, from Mediterranean Sea. Specific keywords (“Galeus diet”, “feeding habits”, “trophic position”, “biology”, “deep environment adaptation”) in principal data sources, such as Web Science, PubMed, and Google Scholar were used. Seventeen studies conducted trophic position G. have been considered for Sea regions. The feeding habits analyzed many areas western basin; instead, Tyrrhenian, Adriatic, central Seas, information is outdated fragmentary. In all investigated sub areas, showed that an opportunistic demersal supra benthic predator, feeder, scavenger, adapts its to seasonal geographical fluctuations prey availability. It occupies a generalist niche showing individual specialization. most important groups crustaceans, cephalopods, teleost fishes. Taxa percentage composition can vary depending different habitats with ontogenetic development individuals, depth (that correlated development), availability, distribution groups. Widening knowledge fundamental tool better understand meso bathy-pelagic ecosystems.
